KFC and Aries launch drippy collab

The Gravy Drip features ten garments, accessories and lifestyle pieces inspired by KFC’s beloved side

Luxury streetwear label Aries’ collabs often cause a splash, but its new launch with KFC is by far its most unexpected partnership yet.

Described by KFC brand manager Phoebe Syms as “a love letter to our liquid gold”, the Gravy Drip collection is a play on the term ‘drip’ (a fresh outfit) and KFC’s popular side, which is clearly the brand’s focus at the moment.

“When we thought about bringing the nation’s gravy obsession into the world of fashion, we knew there was only one brand iconic and fearless enough to do it with us – Aries,” said Syms.

The new ten-piece capsule collection combines oozing gravy with imagery inspired by historic Italian paintings, nodding to Aries’ heritage and its penchant for Italian symbolism (such as its logo featuring Roman-style columns).

People can buy a sticker pack for around the same cost as a meal at KFC, or fork out for a distressed leather jacket with angelic figures wielding chicken drumsticks on the back for a cool £1,400. There is also, of course, a gravy boat.

This isn’t KFC’s first foray into unconventional merch, having previously launched bucket hats inspired by its sharing buckets.

The launch campaign has been shot by Aries’ repeat collaborator Douglas Irvine, whose gently lit soft-focus photos are clearly intended to evoke Italian paintings and frescoes.

“We wanted to create something beautifully executed with a subtle touch of irony,” said Aries founder Sofia Prantera. “The idea of reverence, ritual, and indulgence evoked the spirit of a Roman feast and a celebration of excess.”
