Burberry serves up autumnal vignettes in a new campaign
Olivia Colman, Little Simz, Cole Palmer and more star in a series of entertaining shorts directed by New York-based duo Rubberband
Burberry’s new outerwear campaign, It’s Always Burberry Weather, is appropriately warm. The familiar language sets the tone as we’re introduced to the campaign’s stars on first-name terms, via the brand’s website. Discover ‘The Quilt with Olivia’ – Colman that is – or ‘The Puffer with Barry’ (that’s Barry Keoghan to you and me).
Each of the seven campaign stars appears in their own short film by director duo Rubberband at Smuggler. These take place everywhere from London, where the debut brand campaign under current CCO Daniel Lee was set, to pastoral landscapes across Britain, nodding to the brand’s heritage.
Whether we’re watching Colman negotiate the countryside, Little Simz’s odd encounter while waiting for the train, or Keoghan fumble his way through a handful of café scenes, the clips are light but entertaining thanks to a well-judged mix of gently surreal humour and heartwarming moments.
While they’re mostly short snapshots, tip your hat to Cole Palmer for his unexpected ten-minute, one-take riverside scene that feels more like performance art than advertising.
The films are joined by print ads photographed by Alasdair McLellan, who like campaign star Cara Delevingne is closely associated with the Burberry brand thanks to repeat collaborations over the years.
There will also be thematic window displays, store activations and pop-ups inspired by British landscapes, while a famous archive illustration is being brought back to be used across stores, social media and outdoor displays.
